Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Projections

We publish Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) and air pollutant emissions projections annually. These projections help measure progress in reducing emissions and combating climate change. GHG projections are presented for various scenarios. Air pollutant emissions projections reflect our efforts to reduce air pollution.

The purpose of this page is to describe the organization of the greenhouse gas (GHG) and air pollutant emissions projections and to indicate where to find the online material.

To learn more about Canada’s GHG and air pollutant emissions projections, visit the main page: https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/climate-change/greenhouse-gas-emissions/projections.html.

Documents available online:

The full 2025 report will be published in early 2026 and will be available at: https://publications.gc.ca/site/eng/9.866115/publication.html.

The dataset is organized into the following folders:

1-Current-Projections-Actuelles: Contains the latest projections from Canada's 2025 Greenhouse Gas and Air Pollutant Emissions Projections report.

2-Previous-Projections-Precedentes: Includes projections reported since 2017.

Note: Previously published datasets are made available to support analysis of past projections. Over time, the scope and detail of the data have expanded; however, earlier datasets have not been updated to reflect these changes. The structure and organization of older datasets remain unchanged from their original release.

Organization of the ‘1-Current-Projections-Actuelles’ folder:

A-GHG-Emissions: Contains various GHG emissions datasets by sector (economic sector and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sector) and by gas, for all years, for Canada and for provinces and territories.

B-LULUCF-Sector: Contains various datasets on net fluxes and the accounting contribution from the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry sector, for Canada and for provinces and territories.

C-Energy-Demand: Includes energy demand by sector and by fuel, electricity generation, electricity grid intensities by province and oil and gas intensities.

D-Air-Pollutant-Emissions: Contains various air pollutant emissions datasets by economic sector and by gas, for all years, for Canada and for provinces and territories.

E-Macroeconomic-Drivers: Contains indicators such as population and labour force, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as well as values of imports and exports.

F-Support-Documents: Includes a document that describes how the calculation of electricity grid intensities with and without biogenic carbon dioxide emissions is performed.

G-Data-Visualization-Tables: This folder includes the data tables used to develop the visualizations that are available on our website ( https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/climate-change/greenhouse-gas-emissions/projections.html). These results can also be found in other tables but are included here to ensure that the data presented in the visualizations is more accessible.

H-Report-Tables: Includes the complete set of tables from the 2025 report (to be published in early 2026), as well as the full time series for each table. While the report displays data for select years, this dataset provides all available years to support more detailed analysis.
